Mogre ka Sharbat | Summer Drink of Uttar Pradesh

Mogre ka sharbat (Indian Jasmine Sharbat) is a very old drink that is extensively consumed in Uttarpradesh. It is an ultimate refreshing summer drink. The fragrance of the Jasmine flower will provide you with the energy during this summer.

Ingredients :

  • Indian Jasmine Flower / Mogra Phool – 150 gms 
  • Sugar / Chini – 850 gms
  • Green Cardamom / Hari Elaichi – 5
  • Water / Paani – 5 cup 

 How to make Mogre ka Sharbat :

  1. Wash the jasmine flower/ mogra phool with water.
  2. Now add 3.5 cups of water in the bowl
  3. Let the petals soak for few hours, keep mixing and gently pressing the petals 3-4 times in between but do not mash it.
  4. Later strain and keep the flower separately.
  5. Take a pan and add 850 gms of sugar, 2 cups of water and the green cardamom. Boil on medium heat till the sugar melts and the syrup become sticky and thick like gulab jamun syrup.
  6. To this add 3-4 drops of lemon juice.
  7. Now add the jasmine water to the sugar syrup and just give it 2 boils.
  8. Switch off the flame and add the jasmine petals. 
  9. Cover the pan with a lid and let it rest overnight to get the actual fragrance.
  10. Filter the syrup next day to remove all the petals. This syrup can be stored in a glass bottle or jar.
  11. Refrigerate for a long shelf life.
  12.  While serving, add few tbsp mogra syrup, put some ice cubes and then add chilled water. The ratio is usually 1:5 of syrup and water
