Korri Gassi | how to make indian korri gassi karnataka cuisine

A wonderful korri gassi chicken curry with the aroma Karnataka and flavors of coconut, coconut milk, and tamarind.It is made from Indian cuisine.


  • For the Spices:
  •  coconut oil (1 tsp, you can use vegetable oil)
  • coriander powder (3 tsp )
  • fenugreek seeds (1 pinch)
  • fennel seeds (1/2 tsp )
  • pepper corn (8 pieces)
  • mustard seeds(1 tsp )
  • cumin seeds(2 tsp)
  • chillies(15 red )
  • coconut (1 grated )
  • onions(2 sliced)
  • garlic(8 pods)
  • water(1 cup/ more if required)
  • For the main preparation:
  • coconut oil(2 Tbsp )
  • onions(2 sliced )
  • curry leaves(10 )
  • tomatoes(2 chopped )
  • curry-cut chicken (800 gm )
  • prepared masala
  • salt(1 tsp )
  • tamarind paste(2 Tbsp )
  • coconut milk(100 ml )

Korri gassi Process

  1. For the Spice:
  2. Take a pan place it on heat add oil. Now add fenugreek seeds, coriander powder,  pepper corn, fennel seeds, cumin seeds,   mustard seeds and red chillies and dry roast them.
  3. Now add grated onions and garlic, coconut. Fry the onion in little oil till the onion turns light brown.
  4. Then add water and grind them together. The masala is ready.
    Now the main preparation:
  5. Take a pan place it on heat add oil. Add curry leaves, sliced onions and saute the onions till it becomes transparent.
  6. Then add chopped tomatoes fry for a little while, then add chicken, along with this prepared masala, tamarind paste,  salt and coconut milk. Stir it and Mix well.
  7. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for about 10-15 minutes.
  8. The Korri Gassi is ready now.
  9. You can garnish with curry and coriander leaves and serve hot with traditional Mangalore rice/ roti.
