Jigarthanda Recipe | Delicious Summer Drink of Tamil Nadu

Jigarthanda is a wonderful summer drink. Its a cold beverage that originated in Madurai in Tamil Nadu. The literal meaning of Jigarthanda is Jigar means ‘Heart’, Thanda means ‘Cold’ so this wonderful drink is considered soothing to heart.

Ingredients:

Milk – 1 cup (1/4 liter / 250ml)
Condenced milk – 1/2 cup
Nannari Syrup – 3 to 4 tbsp
Badam Pisin – 1 tbsp
Ice Cream – Scoop

How to prepare Jigarthanda :

  1. Take a bowl and add a tbsp of badam pisin, rinse it in water then again add water soak it overnight. It will increase in volume, if you see any brown spots then remove it carefully and use the rest.You need to add more water as it grows in volume.
  2. Take your serving glass; preferably a long glass,  first add 2 tsp ‘nannari’ syrup to that add 2 heaped tbsp of badam pisin.
  3. Then add little milk and little reduced milk (condensed milk) till it reaches 3/4 th of the glass.
  4. Stir with a spoon then add a scoop of homemade or any desired ice-cream. Serve immediately.

I bet this will seriously cool your heart and crave for more. A wonderful drink for this summer.
