Capsicum Bajji


  • Firm and Large Green Capsicum : 2
  • Besan/Chickpea flour : 1 cup
  • Jeera(Cumin Powder) : 1 tbsp
  • Lemon Juice : 2 tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds (Jeera) : 1 spoon
  • Turmeric: A pinch
  • Chilli Powder : 1 spoon
  • Oil: For frying
  • Baking Soda: A pinch
  • Salt: To taste


  1. Cut the capsicum length wise into strips.
  2. Place them in a large bowl and sprinkle jeera powder and salt.
  3. Add the lemon juice and mix well and keep it aside for 10 mins.
  4. In another bowl add in chickpea flour .
  5. To this add salt, turmeric and chilli powder, baking soda and water to make a thick batter.
  6. Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan and once hot, take each marinated capsicum strip and dip it in the prepared batter so that a thick coat is applied all over and drop it in hot oil.
  7. Repeat this for a couple of strips and fry until it turns golden yellow colour.
  8. Take it out of the pan and place them on the absorbent paper to absorb to the extra.
  9. Repeat it for the next batches of marinated capsicum.
  10. Serve hot.
